This is the short version as I need to leave so that I could get back to London in time for Nightmares on Wax live at Royal Albert Hall.
This meant that I'm already on train before Jake and Lola gave their talks. Gutted as I am to miss these, music is more important than work.
The day before I jumped on the train at Blackfriars and walked the full length of the train to sit down. When I finally got to the last carriage to sit down I found an empty table sat down and immediately Harry said: Hey Dave. So I immediately sat the other side of the carriage with him. This was a great start to a fantastic start to a couple of days in Brighton.
Arriving in Brighton we headed to Loam for coffee, a great place and have added to my places in Brighton list.
After checking-in to my hotel, Numa, I dropped my bag and headed to Bison Beach Bar, earlier that day I messaged Rog, from Only With Love beers (the brewery I have recently invested in) to ask "Where in Brighton can I buy my beers?" and he sent me a bunch of recommendations this being one of them.
I bought a Juicy AF and went and sat on the roof to soak up the sun and be battered by the wind. It wasn't long before I was joined by Harry & Marc.

After a while we headed back into town to the usual haunt The Basketmakers where we were joined by even more attendees.
About 7pm we went across the road to The Eagle, where I ordered food straight away. The pub had a Thai menu and to my absolute joy they had Khoa Soi on the menu. It was absolutely amazing, so much so I considered ordering it again, I shall definitely be returning for this. the only thing wrong with the Eagle was their range of Alcohol Free beers, they only had lagers and Guinness zero.
The day of the event, I went to my usual location for breakfast Cafe CoHo, I've been eating here for years and it never disappoints. Post breakfast I went to meet Niel's for coffee, we met at Triple Point coffee which was supposed to open at 08:30 (according to Google Maps) but there was no sign of it opening anytime soon, so we walked round the corner to Loam.
The day was introduced by Jeremy, building up for an exciting and educational day all about what's new and cool in the web.
Jamima kicked off the day with a great talk on all the features that are newly available that mean you can now use instead of throwing JavaScript at the problem. These included:
<details>/<summary> to replace an accordions@startingstyleRachel spoke about Baseline and strategies for Browser support. Particularly about how the code will be supported in the future, for example will you be just handing over and letting the client take ownership and what their teams capabilities are.
Rachel shall be giving this talk again at Pixel Pioneers, in Bristol so grab a ticket if you haven't already.
This talk spoke directly to me, it was as if Jeremy had looked into my brain and then asked Aleth to come give this talk. The talk was about PWAs (Progressive Web Apps) and especially how they can be used to work offline and wait for the network to be available before uploading files and data.
Usually Harry comes out with his performance hat on (even though it's an invisible hat and not red), today however he came and spoke about using the right tools for the right job. Which does indeed have an effect on performance but building things correctly has an effect on performance any way.
A great talk and if you get the chance go see it.
Today was Manuel's birthday so he came on stage to a room singing Happy Birthday, led by Jeremy.
Manuel spoke about how he has changed the way that he writes CSS, due to all the new features in the Programming Lanuage. He started by talking about reset stylesheets and then went on to show how he used the Maths he didn't pay attention to at school to build all kinds of scales in CSS using olicss.com.
Richard taught us about all the new web features for Fonts since he wrote his book Web Typography 9 years ago. This was quite a lot of things including:
size-adjusttext-size-adjust - which I have just added to this site@counter-styleHe also showed a typographic CSS reset too.
Over all an excellent day out. If you are looking for similar days out like this then check out the following conferences:
