I had been looking forward to today for a couple of months now as we were flying to Stockholm in Sweden, to see Leftfield.
We left East Ham at 10am to get to Heathrow in time for our flight at 13:20. Once through security we went and got some food from Wagamama.
We finished there and went to fill up our water bottles, when we got to the corridor that led to the toilets and water refill there was a barrier across it saying closed. Although there were many people coming through so we went through. When we got to the toilets they were also closed off and there was a leak from the ceiling. We filled up our bottles and went to find another toilet.
As the first toilet had been closed there was quite a queue for the loo. Once out we went down to our gate and as we arrived, at 13:01, we were told, by Andy, that the bus had just left and that was the last one so we had missed our flight, even though it was not leaving for another 19 minutes.
Andy told us there was nothing we could do other than go back upstairs to customer service. Once there we were helped by a most wonderful lady Taz. She checked and there were no seats left on the next flight at 17:50 and suggested that we could try SAS. I looked and found that there was flight leaving at 17:30.
I was just about to book this and Taz said that we would have to book a return as would not be able to use our British Airways flight to return because we didn't fly out. So a return with SAS it was.
The next issue was we were at Terminal 5 and our new flight was going from Terminal 2. Taz told us to go see her colleague at the next desk and someone would escort us to a bus that would take us to Terminal 2. This was pretty exciting as we got to go in a secret lift and was then directed to a shuttle bus that would take us the place we needed to be.
Now at the correct terminal we went and found somewhere to sit and found a seat by the window where I could update my blog about Monkigras and watch the planes taxiing and taking off. After a while we went and found a cafe where we could get a drink, I had a fiery ginger beer with jalapeños, it was not fiery at all and just a bit meh.
Eventually we got on our flight and are now finally on our way to Sweden. I'm hoping that was we get closer to Sweden we will be able to see the Aurora Borealis, which we would not have done if we hadn't missed our earlier flight.
Alas there were no northern lights.
