I took Susan to AngloThai to celebrate her 60th birthday.

Discovery

In March this year I was watching MasterChef the Professionals and the chefs visited AngloThai to go work in the kitchen. The restaurant is owned my a British/Thai chef who learned Thai cuisine in Bangkok before returning to the UK to open the restaurant.

The restaurant cooked Thai food but with a focus on British ingredients, this meant that instead of rice we had bulgur wheat.

Before the end of the episode of MasterChef I had already booked a table.

Staff

I was contacted a few days before the booking to make sure that I still wanted the reservation. After confirming I was asked if we were celebrating a special occasion, I told them that it was part of my partner's 60th birthday celebrations. They asked fro her name so that they could write her a birthday card.

I arrived at the restaurant before Susan as she had a meeting to attend, when I arrived they showed me to the table and there was already a birthday card. While waiting I looked at the drinks menu and ordered a Prickly Ash Negroni, to be ready on Susan's arrival. The cocktail was made with:

  • Sapling gin
  • Nettle Vermouth
  • Campari

When Susan arrived all the staff greeted her and wished her happy birthday.

This is a truly wonderful restaurant and I highly recommend that you go if you ever get the chance.

Menu

The menu was a tasting menu, we were also offered a wine pairing. They partnered with an Austria vineyard. We choose not to have the wine pairing but Susan did have a white Austrian wine to go with her meal and I had a Sabro Galaxy DDH IPA Non-Alcoholic IPA.

Both Susan & I's favourite dish was the Chalk Stream Trout, but every dish was amazing.
